About Counseling
You’ve come to this place to start on a journey…
…down a long, uncertain path.
You’ve been afraid to take that first step,
…but now you’re ready.
It took a lot of courage to come here.
You’re in a safe, peaceful place.
You don’t have to worry that you’ll say the wrong thing…
…you won’t offend anyone…
…you won’t be judged.
It’s okay to just be you.
During your session, this space is yours alone.
Dare to dream…
…to explore…
…to question…
…to grow…
…even cry.
(I’ve got got plenty of tissues!)
Together, we will envision your path…
…set goals…
…gather courage…
…and get started.
Let’s discover the unique person God created you to be,
…and dream of ways to grow into that purpose.
We’ll go to places you’ve been afraid to go alone—
we’ll dive deep beneath the surface.
Who is the real “you” that lives there?
Is that who you want to be?
Or do you dream of transforming into someone new?
The path won’t always be easy…
The sun won’t always shine.
Sometimes there will be storms…
Sometimes the path will be desolate…
…or rocky…
We’ll hit some roadblocks…
…and some dead ends.
But you won’t have to travel alone.
Maybe we’ll discover old wounds that have never healed…
If we do, we’ll care for them.
We may face old demons of pain and shame…
We’ll learn tools to defeat them.
We might uncover past trauma…
We’ll start to put it to rest.
There may be stress living way down…
in the deepest tissues of your body—
It may have been there for longer than you can remember.
But we’ll begin to uproot it
And watch it melt away.
We’ll challenge old habits you want to change,
and build new patterns to replace them.
It may feel clumsy and artificial at first,
but one day you’ll wake up and realize,
“I’m responding to old problems in new ways!”
“I’m using the gifts God gave me!”
“I’m showing myself grace!”
“I’m forgiving!”
It will feel very good.
Who do you want to be?
Who did God make you to be?
What gifts has He given you to help you accomplish that?
Let’s start growing into that person!
It won’t happen overnight…
The road won’t always be smooth…
Sometimes you’ll fall.
(I did—still do!)…
But all in all…
You’ll see growth.
You’ll begin to smile.
And you’ll start to feel a new strength.
I think you’ll love being that you!
